This is more death/black metal than heavy metal, but it's a great album!
Band: Suicidal Winds
CD Title: Chaos Rising
Year: 2007
Website: myspace.com/suicidalwinds
Label: Pulverised Records
Rating: 9.7 / 10
Even though this band has been around since the early 90s, "Chaos Rising" acts as my introduction to them... and what an introduction it is!
Suicidal Winds may have a name that makes me think of flatulence gone wrong, but the music here is nothing to be sniffed at. Every track here knocks you on your arse with unbelievable ease. Suicidal Winds' mix of Black and Death Metal on this album is ferocious and, by the time you've reach the end of the album (even after the strange hidden track!) you're left gasping for more.
"World's End" really stood out for me on the first couple of listens to the album. The riff is incredibly catchy and the lead guitar tone is awesome - it's clean enough to slice right through the rest of the mix. Another track definitely worth mentioning is the title track. "Chaos Rising" is fast and furious and makes you want to headbang until your brains litter the floor in front of you. "Ballade Of Death" was a highly surprising track in comparison to the others here. It's almost-gentle approach draws the listener in immediately and keeps you hooked throughout. This is an amazing song and, if you're crazy and only buy this album to listen to one song, then this is it. It took me a fair while to lift my chin off the floor after listening to this for the first time. "Born To Hate" is also worth writing about here, as it has a fantastic bass sound!
In conclusion, if you're looking for your new favourite death/black metal album... I think you've found it.
Tracks:
01 Slowly We Frost
02 World's End
03 Annihilation And Chaos
04 Destruction Invocation
05 Chaos Rising
06 Ballade Of Death

08 Unevitable Doom
09 Freddy Flesheater
10 Thanatophobia
11 Born To Hate
